Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck
Her Majesty Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck has initiated numerous programs to improve the quality of life of the Bhutanese people especially in the rural areas through the creation of the Tarayana Foundation. As the President of Tarayana Foundation, Her Majesty continues to undertake these journeys into the remote communities of Bhutan to assess the impact of Tarayana’s work as well as to explore new areas of intervention.
The Druk Wangyel Chortens in Dochula, which consists of 108 stupas, Druk Wangyel Lhakhang and Druk Wangyel Tshechu were constructed and conceived by Her Majesty. Her Majesty also commissioned the restoration of the Lungchutse monastery. In addition, Her Majesty is not only an accomplished author but also a keen supporter of literary works, particularly among the youth. She has sponsored and edited a number of books on poetry and essays on issues of relevance to the country.She is the author of “Of Rainbows and Clouds” a story of Yab Ugen Dorji. Her second book “Treasures of the Thunder Dragon – A Portrait of Bhutan” is a blend of personal memoir, history, folklore and travelogue. Further, The Queen Mother is also the Chief Patron of “Mountain Echoes: a Literary Festival”, being organised by the Indo-Bhutan Friendship Association that brings together renowned national and international authors and poets. The festival is a successful forum for exchange in literature and a celebration of the two cultures of India and Bhutan.
Her Majesty continues to render her support in all walks of life either guiding, motivating, counseling or supporting.

Karma Tshering, is one of Bhutan’s first artists trained in the field of filmmaking. The promoter is one of the founding members of Motion Picture Association of Bhutan (MPAB) now called as Bhutan Film Association (BFA) and has served as its Vice President.
The promoter has worked as the director of production in a five year (2004 to 2008) Sacred Dance Research and Documentation Project (Core of Culture) under “The Dragon’s Gift Project”, a collaboration project between MoHCA, RGoB and Honolulu Academy of Arts, USA.
To provide a forum for young Bhutanese women to display their skills and talents, and to advance their careers, the promoter has founded “Miss Bhutan Pageant”, Bhutan’s first beauty pageant show in 2008. The same year, the promoter founded Bhutan’s first women’s magazine “Yeewong” to help bring forward issues related to women in Bhutan.
On 11th November, 2011, with generous support, guidance, encouragement and wisdom from Her Majesty Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, the promoter conceptualized and published “11-11-11”, a tribute book dedicated to The Fourth Druk Gyalpo on His Majesty’s Historic Birthday. The promoter’s team took exactly 45 days from the concept to launch which make the book more unique and special. The 2nd edition of the book was launched on 11th Nov 2013.
